We had some new tyres to try at some motorbike racing events, some Bridgestone 090’s which are a supersport compound road tyre that cost about £80 a pair less than Rennesports or the Dunlop’s we’ve been using for some time now. First impressions were ok as they offer fairly reliable grip and stability but as you upped the pace to somewhere near motorbike racing speed they started to slide fairly early. They were still predictable but a good lap time was not going to happen with these tyres. I think as a fast road tyre they will be very acceptable where you can’t reach proper cornering speeds for long. I know Splodge can get these at a very good price so they’ll be worth trying on the road.

Fitting the engine for motorbike racing events

So with a road engine fitted (cheers Blib) we started race one on Saturday. I was 13th on the grid with Blib 6th so I had to get a good start to get passed early. Moof and Tex were much further back so they would have their own race. I got a flyer again (these Kawasaki’s are a peace of p*ss to get a good start with) and tucked in about fifth. I could see after a few corners that Blib was desperately trying to get passed Richie Welsh and Andy Ward but was nearing the limit himself. He’s getting more and more used to running at the front these motorbike racing events days so I’ll have to remember to let his tyres down next time (although he’s quite capable of forgetting things like that himself!).
